Oversized dresses, baggy trousers and dark colors
For too long it was difficult for plus size women to buy something nice to wear. There is now a large market for plus-size clothing. Now an Asian ad for plus-size fashion is shocking with impossible images.
Obesity is no longer a problem. On the contrary: women stand by their curves and plus size is no longer a reason to hide. Models like Tess Holliday show how it is: Obesity is quite normal in our society. You can stand by it however you like. An Asian advertisement for plus sizes, however, spans the spectrum.
Take: A woman of normal weight, oversized stretch trousers and tuck them into one of the trouser legs for advertising purposes . The perhaps unintended message is obvious: A thin woman fits twice in her pants.
For a company looking to sell plus size pants, that might not be exactly the right message. Certainly there are ways to present the oversized trousers in a more appealing and less discriminatory way.
